All of the children/youth in the residential group home attend Hope Harbor's school. It is a central and critical part of the work of Hope Harbor. The alternative education program has three goals. First, students receive the individualized attention and special assistance needed to get their education back on track. Students are prepared for reentry into public schools with an expectation of success. Students typically leave Hope Harbor with a measure of confidence in their academic abilities that they never before thought possible. Second, to replace negative, destructive behaviors with positive, constructive ones. Core values, such as accountability and responsibility, are reinforced daily in the classroom. Finally, through self awareness exercises and a unique "learning how to learn" curriculum, students are able to identify their own unique skills and abilities and how to best utilize them to achieve their goals.
